Spendsei Privacy Policy

Spendsei is operated by NGEN Labs LLC ("Spendsei," "we," "us").

This Privacy Policy covers the Spendsei mobile app, the spendsei.app website (including guest receipt claim pages and website forms), and related services.

Account and profile information: if you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive basic account information such as your name, email address, profile image, and authentication identifiers. You may also add a display name, username, profile photo, and payment handles (such as Venmo, Cash App, or PayPal usernames).

Receipts, expenses, and budgets: receipt images, text extracted from receipts, items, prices, quantities, taxes, tips, fees, discounts, currencies, categories, budgets, recurring payments, income sources, notes, and other expense details you enter or approve.

Group and shared-expense information: groups you create or join, members, splits, balances, payment requests, settlements, paid statuses, recaps, and group activity.

Chat and social content: group and direct messages, replies, reactions, edits, pinned messages, polls, stickers, comments, likes, payment activity you choose to share, and the visibility settings you choose for that content.

Media: photos, photo albums, videos, voice messages, profile and group images, and sticker images you upload.

Bank account information, only if you choose to connect a bank when that feature is available. See "Bank Connections" below.

Subscription information: whether you have Spendsei Pro and related subscription status, such as trial and renewal state.

Device, diagnostic, and usage information: device type, operating system, app version, crash logs, diagnostics, performance data, usage analytics, and push notification tokens.

Support and website submissions: information you send us through support, the website support form, or the early-access form. See "Website Forms" below.

Guest claim information: information processed when someone uses a receipt claim link on our website. See "Guest Receipt Claims" below.

We use information to operate Spendsei and its features, including receipt scanning, expense tracking, budgets and insights, groups and splits, chat and social features, guest receipt claims, notifications, subscriptions, and syncing your data across devices.

We use receipt, expense, group, and (if you connect a bank) transaction information to generate spending insights, summaries, forecasts, budget recommendations, reminders, and other app experiences.

We use uploaded content to display it back to you and to the people you choose to share it with, such as members of a group or chat.

We use technical and diagnostic information to keep Spendsei reliable and secure, fix bugs, prevent abuse, and improve the product.

We use contact information to respond to support requests and, if you join the early-access list, to send launch updates.

We may use aggregated or de-identified information to improve product decisions, reliability, and user experience.

Receipt text recognition (OCR) runs on your device. To turn a receipt into structured items and totals, receipt text and, for some features, the receipt image may be sent to our servers and processed by an AI service provider.

When you use AI-powered features, such as spending insights, summaries, the Spendsei Assistant, or AI commentary with selectable personalities, we send the information needed to produce what you asked for (for example your question and relevant spending, receipt, or group information you have access to) to an AI service provider. We currently use OpenAI for these features.

Voice features may send generated text to ElevenLabs to produce audio.

Individual transactions from connected bank accounts are not sent to AI service providers by default. Spending and budget totals shown in the app, which can include spending from connected accounts, may be used when you ask an AI feature about your budget or spending.

Receipt parsing and AI outputs may be inaccurate or incomplete. Review results before relying on them. AI-generated content is not financial, tax, legal, accounting, or other professional advice.

Connecting a bank account is optional. When this feature is available, you can choose to connect accounts at supported financial institutions through Plaid Inc. ("Plaid"), a third-party service.

You sign in to your financial institution through Plaid's interface, not through Spendsei. Spendsei does not receive or store your bank username or password.

When you connect an account, Spendsei receives the information needed for read-only financial tracking, such as the institution's name, account names and types, the last digits of account numbers, balances, currency, and transaction details such as merchant, amount, date, category, pending status, and location information provided by your institution.

Bank connections in Spendsei are read-only. Spendsei does not use Plaid to move money, initiate payments or transfers, or hold funds.

Connected-account and transaction information is stored on our servers and associated with your Spendsei account. Credentials that let Spendsei access your connected accounts are kept on our servers in encrypted form and are not sent to the app. Some imported transactions may also be stored on your device.

You can disconnect a linked institution in the app at any time. Disconnecting stops Spendsei from syncing that institution, and you can choose whether to also remove the transactions imported from it.

Plaid's collection and use of your information is governed by Plaid's own privacy policy, which Plaid makes available when you connect an account.

A Spendsei user (the host) can share a link that lets others claim items from a receipt in a web browser without a Spendsei account.

When you open a claim link, our website creates a temporary anonymous identifier for your browser using Firebase Authentication. Your browser also stores a small amount of information so you can return to your claim.

We process the name you enter, the items and quantities you select, your calculated share of the receipt, whether you have marked your share as paid, and basic status information such as whether you are viewing, selecting, or finished.

The host can see your name, selections, share, payment status, and claim status. Guests do not see other guests' names or amounts.

The receipt's details and image, and the host's display name and any payment handles the host has added, are shown to people with the link.

Spendsei calculates shares but does not process payments. Payment buttons open the payment service the host chose, such as Venmo, Cash App, or PayPal, where you complete any payment under that service's terms.

Our website support form collects your name, email address, subject, and message. The early-access form collects your email address and the feature you are most interested in.

These submissions are delivered by email to [email protected] through our email delivery provider, Resend. We use them to respond to you and, for early-access requests, to send launch updates.

Our website is hosted by Vercel. Like most websites, it may process standard request information such as your IP address and browser details to deliver and secure the site.

Spendsei stores and syncs data using Google Firebase services, including Firebase Authentication, Firestore, Firebase Storage, and Firebase Cloud Messaging, and runs backend services on Google Cloud.

Cloud sync helps your data persist when you reinstall the app, switch devices, restore purchases, or participate in shared groups.

Uploaded media, including receipt images, group images, chat photos, videos, voice messages, and sticker content, may be stored in cloud storage when needed to provide app functionality.

Some information, such as imported transactions and other app data, may also be stored on your device.

Cloud services may experience interruptions, delays, or sync issues, and we cannot guarantee uninterrupted availability or perfect synchronization at all times.

When you use groups, splits, chats, polls, stickers, social posts, or other collaborative features, certain information may be visible to other participants.

Shared information may include your name, username, profile image, expenses, balances, item assignments, payment status, messages, reactions, polls, media, voice messages, stickers, comments, and group activity.

Where Spendsei offers visibility settings, such as who can see payment activity you share, your choice controls who can see that content.

You should only share information with people and groups you trust.

Spendsei is not responsible for disputes between users regarding shared expenses, reimbursements, settlements, messages, or group activity.

Spendsei Pro is purchased through Apple's App Store. Apple processes the payment; Spendsei does not receive your full payment card number.

We use RevenueCat to manage subscription status and purchase entitlements, so Spendsei knows whether your account has access to Spendsei Pro. RevenueCat receives purchase and subscription information from Apple and an identifier for your Spendsei account.

Renewals, cancellations, refunds, and billing are managed through your Apple account and are subject to Apple's terms and policies.

Spendsei may send push notifications related to expenses, groups, reminders, chats, reactions, polls, payment activity, account activity, subscription status, app updates, and product announcements.

We store a push notification token for your device to deliver notifications through Firebase Cloud Messaging and Apple's push notification service.

You can manage or disable push notifications through your device settings.

We use Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to understand app performance, identify bugs, improve stability, and make Spendsei easier to use.

Crash logs and diagnostics may include technical information about your device, app state, error messages, and usage patterns around the time of an issue.

We use service providers to operate Spendsei, including: Google (Firebase and Google Cloud) for authentication, data storage, file storage, notifications, analytics, crash reporting, and backend hosting; Apple for Sign in with Apple, App Store purchases, and push notifications; Google Sign-In for sign-in; OpenAI for AI features and receipt parsing; ElevenLabs for voice features; RevenueCat for subscription status; Plaid for optional bank connections; Resend for website email delivery; and Vercel for website hosting.

These providers process information as needed to provide their services to us and operate under their own terms and privacy policies.

Spendsei may link to third-party apps or services such as Venmo, Cash App, PayPal, or other payment-related platforms for convenience.

Spendsei does not process, hold, transfer, or guarantee funds through those external payment platforms.

Your use of external payment platforms is governed by their own terms and privacy policies.

We do not sell your personal information.

Information may be shared with other users only when you choose to use shared features, such as groups, chats, polls, social posts, sticker sharing, guest receipt claims, or collaborative expense tracking.

Information may be shared with service providers as necessary to operate Spendsei, as described above.

We may disclose information if required by law, legal process, security needs, fraud prevention, or to protect the rights, safety, and integrity of Spendsei, users, or others.

We retain information for as long as necessary to provide Spendsei, maintain your account, support shared features, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and improve the service.

Some data may remain in backups, logs, analytics, or records for a limited period after deletion.

Shared content may remain visible to other participants if it was part of a shared group, chat, guest claim, or collaborative feature before deletion, unless the app provides a way to remove it.

You can edit or delete certain data directly in the app.

You can delete your Spendsei account in the app from Profile by choosing Delete Account. This removes your Spendsei sign-in account. Content you shared with others may remain visible to them.

If you have connected a bank account, disconnect it in the app before deleting your account.

You may request deletion of other data associated with your account, or a copy of your data, by contacting [email protected].

Deleting your account does not cancel a Spendsei Pro subscription. Manage or cancel subscriptions in your Apple App Store account settings.

You can manage notification permissions through your device settings.

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect your information.

No online service, cloud system, or data transmission method is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Spendsei is not intended for users under 13.

If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete it where required by law.

We may update this Privacy Policy over time as Spendsei changes or as legal, technical, or business requirements evolve.

The updated policy will be posted with a new effective date.
